From gospel roots in a New Orleans church to international stages, Stephen Walker’s journey with music began at age 5. Introduced to instruments by his father, Bishop Lawrence Walker Sr., Stephen explored piano, clarinet, and trumpet before embracing the trombone at age 12. Quickly rising as a prodigious talent, he studied at the renowned New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. By 16, Stephen began his first international tour in Greece alongside Grammy-winner Irvin Mayfield.
Mentored by Grammy-winning producer and trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, Stephen has collaborated with luminaries like Harry Connick Jr., Brandford Marsalis, Trombone Shorty, Nicholas Payton, Kermit Ruffins, Davell Crawford, and many more. Known for his mastery of New Orleans music, he is currently touring with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
